RIE Parent-Infant Guidance™ Classes
A wonderfully different kind of parent-child class
RIE Parent-Infant Guidance™ Classes at Nurtured Child bring parents and their children together in-person to learn about and enjoy their child’s development and to see the RIE approach in practice. Guided by two RIE Associates, Anna Ruth and Leith, you’ll be invited to relax, develop your respectful parenting style, and build a beautiful and lasting relationship with your child.
The play environments in our studios are thoughtfully prepared to support the development of each child. The classrooms include age-appropriate gross motor equipment that provides opportunities for infants and toddlers to challenge themselves (if they choose). Arranged with open-ended materials and Pikler® certified movement equipment, our play spaces offer an optimal learning environment for infants and toddlers.
In-person classes are generally organized by stage of motor development and age (see below).
IN-PERSON | $720 per 12-week term
Infant
~approximately 2-6 MONTHS*
This class is for infants lying on their back, turning to their side, and learning to roll over
You and your infant have moved through the sensitive newborn phase and are beginning to develop a new normal. You’re observing all the different ways your baby communicates, and learning to respond to their specific needs and preferences. Now that your baby is awake for longer stretches of time between care routines, this is the time to give your infant the opportunity to lay on their back on the floor so they can discover the joy of free movement and play.
Locomoting Infant
~approximately 7-16 MONTHS*
This class is for infants who are creeping, crawling, and pulling to stand
Changing mobility means there are other changes to consider in how you and your child relate to one another in a respectful and considerate way. Now that your baby’s mobility is increasing, a new perspective on cooperative caregiving, and what’s needed to keep your physical environment enriching – while maintaining the need for safety – are new things to keep in mind.
*We are currently welcoming families with children ages 7 to 16 months in these classes.
Toddler
~approximately 16-24 MONTHS*
This class is for children newly-walking and walking independently
The toddler quite literally sees the world from a different perspective! Observing your child come to free walking in their own time offers a chance to see your trust and confidence in their abilities come to fruition.
The thinking and feeling life of the toddler are continuing to expand, so your relationship shifts to support their increased need for independence, while still understanding they require your care and support.
Who is this class for?
This class is for parents and caregivers of infants and toddlers aged 2 to 24 months who want to meet other families and learn more about how to support your child’s unfolding development.
You’ll observe your baby moving, playing, and interacting with peers as they expand their capabilities in the physical, cognitive, and social-emotional realm. If you are interested in growing your toolbox or developing a more intentional parenting style, you’ll learn how RIE gives you the relational and practical skills to support your child as they grow. You can join us for as little as one term or stay with us until the youngest child in your group turns two. Many families do! We invite you to join us!
